Pumpkin Spice and everything nice! If you are like me, you cannot wait for that glorious day in late August when your favorite coffee shop brings back the Pumpkin Spice Latte. I literally cannot get enough of the flavor, what I can get enough of is the amount of sugar and calories in those tasty treats. That is why I decided to make a lower calorie version of my own to enjoy long past fall. This recipe for Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew Coffee will quickly become your favorite go to fall caffeine fix!
Now, I am a newcomer to the cold brew coffee scene. I tried my first cold brew this past summer and quickly became hooked. The lower calorie count to fit my macro plan plus the added coffee buzz it provided quickly made this beverage my go to afternoon pick me up at the office.
What exactly is cold brew coffee? Cold Brew coffee is coffee that is brewed with room temperature or cold water over a 12 to 24-hour brew time. Because it is made with colder water, it is generally a bit mellower and has a more rounded flavor profile. Some say it has more of a caffeine kick too. I use a French press to make my hot coffee in the mornings so naturally when I make my cold brew I use that same method. Personally, I feel that by using fresh ground coffee beans and the French press the coffee has a fresher and more robust taste.
Let’s talk about this Pumpkin Spice creamer for a bit shall we. I have made my own coffee creamers for years now, not only to cut out artificial flavors and preservatives but the calories as well. This recipe can be used not only in your cold brew but your hot coffee as well. It really cannot be any simpler to make your own creamer, literally five minutes! Just whisk the ingredients together in a bowl and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. You can also customize your creamer base with different spices and flavors to suit your tastes. At Christmas, I add some clove and ginger along with cinnamon and vanilla to make a gingerbread flavor creamer.
So next time you are craving a bit of a caffeine buzz with that amazing Pumpkin Spice flavor but want to cut the calories down try this recipe for Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew Coffee. You will not be disappointed!
