Ahhh winterime. There is nothing like snuggling up with a warm blanket watching holiday movies with the kiddos. It has finally gotten a bit chilly here in Phoenix, and by chilly I mean in the high 60’s during the day. I know it is nothing like the snow hitting most of you on the east coast this week but hey this weather excites us in AZ! Any whoo we finally start to feel like we can enjoy winter treats and what better way that with The Best Maple White Hot Chocolate!
My son considers himself a conisseur of hot chocolate, you name the flavor he has tried it. In brutally honest fashion as let’s face it many 10 year olds are brutally honest he will rank his favorites. Top of his list has been my Holiday Hot Cocoa, we have even modified it with some peppermint essential oil. Peppermint and chocolate, umm yes please! One night he asked to try a recipe with White Chocolate. I thought about it for awhile and I came to the conclusion that I have never, I mean ever made a white hot chocolate. Not sure why but we were up for the challenge.
Let’s just say that in our house Dark Chocolate is our favorite. There are certain things you always keep in your pantry. In mine, one ingredient you will always find is dark and milk chocolate chips, because you never know when that chocolate baking bug will hit you. Or when you will just want to snag a few for curb the cravings. White chocolate almost never, not sure why because it is so buttery and tasty. By some stroke of luck I had half a bag of Ghirardelli White Chocolate chips left from a previous recipe.
OK, back to this hot chocolate recipe. When looking over different recipes for a white hot chocolate they all seemed to be the same, which it totally fine because why mess with a good thing. I wanted to jazz up my version a bit and what goes better with the velvety flavor of white chocolate than Maple syrup!
The addition of Maple syrup to this white hot chocolate is subtle yet delicious. The maple syrup does not add too much sweetness or overpower the white chocolate which is key. This hot chocolate is so rich and velvety it will easily become your favorite holiday drink. My son certainly enjoyed it, especially topped with a mountain of whipped cream during our holiday movie time!
So pick out a holiday classic, make a batch of The Best Maple White Hot Chocolate. Top it off with lots of whipped cream and sprinkles then sit back, relax and enjoy!
