I love a good frosting recipe that is versatile and not too sweet. If you are not a fan of super sweet buttery frostings then this recipe is for you! A blend of a traditional buttercream with a hint of cream cheese and vanilla. Not only can this recipe be made in just about 10 minutes or less you can add additional flavors to suit your cupcake or cake frosting flavor profile! I added a bit of almond extract which makes this version super delicious and not too sweet. You can even substitute in fresh lemon juice for the cream to make a lemon vanilla frosting. Either way it is still super delicious!
How to make The BEST Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting:
Step 1:
In the bowl of a mixer beat the room temperature butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy about 3 minutes.
Step 2:
Add in Vanilla and Almond Extract until incorporated. Then add in powdered sugar 1 cup at a time.
Step 3:
Mix in Heavy cream 1 tablespoon at a time until incorporated.
This frosting is a dream to pipe onto cupcakes and holds its shape perfectly! I hate it when you frost a beautiful cupcake only to have the frosting droop and drip off hours later. This is my go to frosting whenever making cupcakes for my kids parties or in general when I am craving a sweet cupcake treat!
