Hey everyone, I’m Jillian! Welcome to Simple Sassy and Scrumptious! I am so excited to share this blogging journey with all of you! I am very passionate about food and nutrition! For me, cooking and baking is a stress reliever from the day-to-day craziness that comes with being a wife, mother of two beautiful (yet energetic) kids and a full time job as a software solutions consultant. I am a self-taught cook/baker and have loved every bit of my food journey!
Growing up just outside of Chicago, there were opportunities to try different types of food from the city neighborhoods. Every culture was represented. However, my true love for food started when I was 10 years old when I became a foreign exchange student with a family in Marseille France. The smell of fresh baked French baguettes in the boulangerie walking to class in the morning and the chocolate filled croissants were simply magical compared to my usual breakfast staple in the states. This memory enticed me to start baking and begin the process of perfecting the elusive and delicate French Macaron.
My exchange sister and I kept in touch and over the years with every visit to Marseille, I learned something new about cooking the Provencal way…which is fresh and simple! Even though I could not appreciate it at the time, the day-to-day life of being in Provence and studying in Florence Italy had a profound effect on how I view food today.
One of my goals for blogging is to bring simple to prepare dishes using fresh ingredients that provide exceptional flavor to your family. In several of my recipes you will notice that I incorporate Essential Oils. I started using Essential Oils over a year ago to help keep my family healthy during the winter months and quickly found that certain oils added amazing flavor to the dishes I prepared. Experimenting with Essential Oils in my cooking has been such a fun process and certainly has pushed me beyond my cooking comfort zone.
